Story & Lesson Highlights with Ta-Tanisha Thomas

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Ta-Tanisha Thomas. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Ta-Tanisha, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
One of the most recent moments that made me feel proud is when Nashville Flying Dress was selected as one of 100 businesses in the City to be awarded the Comcast RISE Award.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Ta-Tanisha Thomas, and I am the founder of Nashville Flying Dress, a photography experience designed to help women celebrate themselves in bold, unforgettable ways. What started as a creative idea has grown into one of Nashville’s most unique visual experiences, where visitors and locals step into flowing flying dresses and capture powerful images against the backdrop of Music City. The goal has always been simple: create a moment where someone feels confident, celebrated, and larger than life.

Today, Nashville Flying Dress operates as part of Officially Crowned LLC, a company I built around the idea of creating meaningful experiences. Alongside our photography sessions, our team curates travel, celebrations, and milestone moments for clients visiting Nashville or planning adventures around the world. What makes our brand special is that we focus on experiences that people remember for the rest of their lives.

Right now, we are expanding the reach of Nashville Flying Dress through media features, partnerships, and new creative projects that highlight Nashville as a destination for celebration, travel, and unforgettable photography. The mission remains the same as day one: help people step into a moment where they feel seen, confident, and ready to take up space.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the world started assigning roles and expectations, I was deeply connected to the arts. As a child I danced, sang, acted in plays, ran track, and spent time as a cheerleader. I loved the stage. Performing, storytelling, and hearing the applause at the end of a show brought me tremendous joy. Being in theaters, watching productions, and participating in them shaped how I experienced creativity and confidence.

That artistic foundation still lives in the work we create today. The images captured through Nashville Flying Dress reflect that same sense of performance, movement, and celebration. Each session carries the energy of the stage. The flowing dresses, the motion, the bold presence in front of the camera all echo the same artistic expression that once lived in dance recitals and theater productions. In many ways, every session is a visual performance where our clients step into the spotlight and experience a moment that feels powerful, expressive, and unforgettable.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell her to trust herself and recognize her power early. I would remind her that not everyone who enters her life is meant to stay, and that is perfectly fine. The right people will find her, support her, and celebrate who she is becoming.

I would also tell her never to settle. Not in love, not in life, and not in the opportunities she pursues. Always choose the path that expands her, strengthens her, and allows her to grow into the fullest version of herself.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I am deeply committed to building a tourism and hospitality enterprise that becomes a generational legacy for my family. The vision is bigger than any single business. Through Officially Crowned Travel, Nashville Flying Dress, Flying Dress Getaways, and Royal Journey Apparel & Accessories, I have created a group of brands that naturally complement one another and elevate the overall customer experience.

Each company plays a role in a larger ecosystem centered around celebration, travel, and meaningful experiences. I recognize the responsibility and opportunity within that vision. By allowing each brand to strengthen and support the others, the goal is to build something enduring, impactful, and expansive. In time, that foundation has the potential to grow into one of the most powerful tourism and hospitality conglomerates in the world while creating lasting value for the generations of my family to come.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I travel. There is something about the moment a plane lifts off the runway that brings a sense of calm and clarity. Then the feeling deepens when it lands somewhere new, especially in a destination I have never explored before.

Water has always brought me peace as well. Lakes, oceans, the sound of waves, and the feeling of sand beneath my feet create a quiet space where everything slows down. Watching a sunrise or sunset does the same thing. Those moments remind me how vast the world is and how much beauty exists when we pause long enough to notice it.
