Story & Lesson Highlights with The Heels

We’re looking forward to introducing you to The Heels. Check out our conversation below.

The , it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Recently, we had the incredible honor of joining Alabama on their Roll-On North America Tour and opening their shows with our acoustic trio set for sold-out crowds of country music fans. It was a dream come true for us! Walking off stage that first night, Brittni made us all laugh when she said, ‘Thank you, Puckett’s! All the preparation for this moment!’
For us, that really hit home. Puckett’s has been such a gift since we moved to Nashville — a place that not only gave us regular stages to play our original songs, but also provided community, income, and encouragement along the way. When you play those kinds of shows over and over, it can sometimes feel like routine, but the truth is those moments are quietly shaping you for the bigger stages.
So when we stepped out in front of thousands of cheering fans, instead of being overwhelmed, we felt at ease — because of all those nights at Puckett’s and places like it. It gave us a whole new appreciation for every single gig, no matter the size. We’re so grateful for those opportunities, and we hope our journey encourages other artists to keep showing up, because those little moments are the stepping stones to the big ones.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
We’re The Heels — three singer-songwriters who first met in a café, each of us chasing our own solo careers while balancing full-time jobs and big dreams of making music our life. What started as a chance meeting as the cafe owner of Buddha-Full (Kyla) and the barista (Brittni) and the regular customer (Bobbi) grew into a sisterhood and a band built on harmonies, storytelling, and the belief that music can connect people in a powerful “heeling” way.
Since then, we’ve been so grateful for the journey — from releasing multiple albums and touring internationally to moving to Nashville part-time together where we’re now writing new songs for our fourth record, working toward a record deal, and continuing to share our music on stages big and small. What makes The Heels unique is that everything we do comes from a place of authenticity and collaboration — three voices, three stories, woven together into one sound.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Honestly, our answer is that we are who we are right now. Each of us has done the work of shedding the limiting beliefs we grew up with — the idea that you have to follow a certain path, go to school, chase money, or work a so-called ‘real job.’ For a while, we tried to fit into those molds, but deep down we always knew music was where we belonged.
Now, we’ve returned to that pure place we all had as kids — with unrelenting faith in our dreams and the freedom to live in our passion every day. Creating together, writing songs, performing, and building this life reminds us that being true to ourselves is the greatest success we can have

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
We stopped hiding our pain when we realized that our struggles could actually be a bridge of connection. Writing more vulnerable songs about what we’ve been through has opened the door for people to see themselves in our stories and to know they’re not alone. That’s part of how our name, The Heels, first began as The Heals — because this band was born while we were healing ourselves through music.
Now, we’ve taken that even further by weaving healing frequencies into our recordings, creating a subliminal feel-good experience for our listeners. It’s our way of turning pain into power — not just for ourselves, but for anyone who hears our music and feels comforted, uplifted, or understood.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes — what you see in public is the real us. We’re very open and authentic, but like anyone, there are layers. On stage, The Heels are full glam — it’s part of the show, part of the fun, and we love leaning into that feminine, larger-than-life energy. We’ve always admired Dolly Parton for embracing that balance, knowing that entertainment is about creating a little magic.
At home, though, we’re much more natural — no makeup, bare feet in the garden, growing our own food, baking bread, or swimming in the ocean. Both sides are real, they just express different parts of who we are. The glam is the sparkle, and the natural side is the grounding.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
Yes, we’re absolutely tap dancing to work! We love what we do — the travel, the glam, the shows, and the chance to meet new fans and connect with people everywhere we go. Writing songs, recording, and being part of this industry feels like living a dream.
That said, we’re also human. Life on the road can be hectic, and there are days when we get tired or face challenges. But the gratitude always brings us back — especially the gratitude of having each other. We lift each other up in the lows and celebrate together in the highs. That sisterhood is what makes this journey not only possible, but so meaningful.
