We recently had the chance to connect with Tyquez Johnson and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Tyquez, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I feel like now I’m being called on more to be that “LEADER” or more so the head of the snake in all aspects of my line. Where as in the past I would find myself being content with taking the backseat in situations, just to appease others feelings or ego’s but that those days are behind me now. God has a calling over my life that requires me to be responsible and to be a true man of God.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
So what’s going on guys and gals my name is Tyquez but I go by Ty for short and I make cool clothes. Nashville Tennessee is where I reside and where I happen to find most of my inspiration. So my clothing brand is called L.E.A.K and the acronyms stand for live, everyday, as, kings. Now I know some of you are probably thinking wow how did he come up with this but all I can say is that it was a gift from the man above. The thought to have a clothing line came to me when I was around 12 years old and in April 2014 that thought manifested into a living breathing entity over time.Then the rest is history I’ve had all colors, sizes ,and genders support my clothing line which I am truly thankful for. And to show my appreciation I’ll leave you all with this , December 7th that New LEAK will be here live and direct.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
If I’m being truthful my relationship with God shaped how I view myself. I try to appease him in all my actions and use my clothing line to reach and meet like minded folks.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
One kind thing I’d say to younger Ty is that man everything is going to work out buddy. Also it’s cool to be yourself and to wear what you want ,forget the naysayers.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes you pretty much see what you get with me. Now I’m not going to lie I’m not outside like that unless I’m traveling or doing something for my business. So hey let’s just say if you know then you know.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace and this might sound cliche but when I’m stitching. That is truly when I’m at peace like even the little problems like a nest, or a broken needle doesn’t bother me. I’d say i have the ultimate patience when it comes to stitching but on the otherhand you have to be patient to get quality work so it all works out i guess.
